The City of Calgary is working hard to establish itself as an international-calibre arts centre and to that end is both placing and commissioning works of public art to enliven every corner of the city (including within the gates of one City landfill!). The City also didn’t shy away from a certain amount of controversy in bringing Device to Root out Evil by Dennis Oppenheim from Vancouver to its new home in Calgary. The structure is an inverted church made of steel and glass and looks striking lit at night. It’s not entirely uninteresting in the daylight either.
